Charges: Good Samaritan Pleads With Drunk Driver to Stop, She Calls Him Ugly

(Le Center, MN) – A 47-year-old woman from Le Center is charged with drunk driving, accused of nearly causing a couple of crashes and insulting a good samaritan who pleaded with her to get off the roads.

According to the complaint, a motorist came across a van being driven by Shanah Carolyn Collins around 7:15pm on July 27th. The witness stated that the vehicle was going about 80 miles an hour and weaving all over the road. The witness called authorities and followed the van which he says was in the wrong lane and nearly caused a head-on collision, forcing a vehicle off of Le Sueur County Road 136 and into the grass.

The witness says as Collins later approached Highway 99, she stopped and he pulled along side her and pleaded with her to stop before she killed someone. The witness says Collins called him “ugly” and proceeded through the intersection, nearly colliding with a truck.

Shortly after, the responding Sheriff’s Deputy stopped Collins and said that testing put her blood alcohol content at .20.

The charges against Collins came on the same day as another Le Sueur County woman, Kimberly Stangler, pleaded guilty for a drunk driving crash that killed a 65-year-old motorcyclist. That story can be found here.
