Fire Erupts at Northrop Elevator, Site of Thursday Explosion

(Northrup, MN) – The grain elevator that was damaged in a Thursday explosion is now on fire.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office says crews are battling the blaze, which broke out around 5:00am Friday morning. They are advising people to stay away from the area while firefighters are on the scene.

Today’s blaze comes in the wake of an explosion at the elevator around noon Thursday, as the top portion was blown apart and the debris damaged several nearby homes, businesses and vehicles. Three employees suffered minor injuries and were evaluated on scene.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office are working to determine the cause.
