Hy-Vee May Build Distribution Center in Southern Minnesota

(Austin, MN) – Grocery chain Hy-Vee is exploring preliminary plans to build a distribution center in southern Minnesota.

Hy-Vee says it’s looking into a 150-acre site north of Interstate 90 on the western edge of Austin. The site is being considered due to its centralized location in the company’s eight-state territory, interstate access, and Austin’s ample workforce.

Hy-Vee does not currently own the property, but it’s anticipated that construction could begin on the first phase of the new facility as early as 2019.

The Austin City Council this week approved an environmental impact study on the land that Hy-Vee is looking to purchase and some neighbors have already come out in opposition to the planned distribution center.

Hy-Vee currently owns and operates distribution centers in Cherokee, Iowa, and Chariton, Iowa.
