Mankato Police Cite 170 for Underage Drinking

(Mankato, MN) – With college students returning en masse to Mankato for the start of classes, it was a busy weekend for Mankato police.

Department of Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel says officers handed out nearly 170 citations for underage drinking this weekend. There were also 10 people cited for violation of the city’s social host ordinance.

Despite the high number of tickets for underage consumption/possession, Schisel there was no noticeable increase in other associated crimes such as assault or drunk driving.

In the weekend before classes started in 2016, Mankato police cited 142 people for underage drinking and 13 for violation of the social host ordinance.

Mankato-North Mankato is ranked as the 11th drunkest city in the nation.
