Mankato Police: Woman Steals Wheelchair, Claims She “Found It”

(Mankato, MN) – A 48-year-old woman stands accused of stealing a wheelchair from the MCHS hospital in Mankato.

Court documents say that police were called to the hospital on August 5th by hospital staff, who said that Shannon Ray Smith of Fridley had stolen a wheelchair from the Emergency Department. A staff member said she was driving home from work and saw Smith pushing the wheelchair down Madison Avenue.

The officer went to the area where Smith was last seen and located her with the wheelchair, which was labeled “MCHS.” Smith told police that she found the wheelchair, but police say surveillance video shows her pushing it out of the hospital.
