As Many as 135 Applebee’s to be Closed

(Mankato, MN) – The parent company of Applebee’s has increased the number of restaurants that it plans to shutter.

DineEquity now says between 105 and 135 Applebee’s will be closed, compared to earlier expectations of between 40 and 60 of the restaurants.

The Applebee’s locations that will be closed have not yet been announced, but DineEquity says that decision will be based on several criteria, including franchisee profitability, operational results and meeting brand quality standards.

There are more than 2,000 Applebee’s restaurants in the U.S. and worldwide, including locations in Mankato, New Ulm, Owatonna, Austin and Northfield.

DineEquity is also the parent company of IHOP and plans to close as many as 25 of those restaurants. There are a handful of IHOP locations around the Twin Cities, but none in southern Minnesota.
