(Mankato, MN) – Residents in Mankato and in towns across the region now have two new options for when they need a ride.
Both ride sharing transportation networks Uber and Lyft are now operating in Mankato.
In addition to offering rides for those without vehicles, both services are also looking for drivers. Uber says becoming a driver in the Mankato area is a way to earn money on your own terms.
“Full-time and part-time driving jobs for independent contractors in Mankato give you the flexibility to work as much or as little as you want. Uber takes care of all the details so you can focus on driving your car when it works for you.
Just over a week ago, Lyft announced that it was serving Mankato as part of its largest ever expansion with more than 50 new cities.
As of now, transportation networks such as Lyft and Uber are not regulated by the city of Mankato, but the council could decide to revisit that issue.
The city did implement new rules around taxi cab companies last year, but they differ from Lyft and Uber in numerous ways. With ride-sharing services, the drivers own their own cars and are independent contractors, while taxi companies own the vehicles and the drivers are employees.
