100 years and counting: Southern Minnesota Century Farms recognized

(Mankato, MN) – Several area farms with a long, rich history have been recognized for their century status.

The Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau have recognized 131 farms across the state as 2018 Century Farms.  To qualify for the recognition, farm must have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and have 50 or more acres.

Local 2018 Century Farm families include :

Blue Earth County

Dan & Mary Gilman of Lake Crystal – purchased in 1904
Welsh Heritage Farm of Lake Crystal – purchased in 1903
Don J. Appel and family of Mapleton – purchased in 1866

Brown County

Windschitl Family Farm inof Comfrey – purchased in 1914
Timm/Siebert/Erickson Farm of Springfield – purchased in 1878

Nicollet County

Thomas A. Forsberg of Lafayette Township – purchased in 1918
Rubie Family Farm of New Ulm – purchased in 1875
Von Ohlen of North Mankato – purchased in 1916

Waseca County

Ludeman Family Farm of Minnesota Lake – purchased in 1917
Bethke Family Farm of New Richland -purchased in 1908
