(Mankato, MN) – Two people were injured in a crash on Highway 83 at St. Clair Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a Dodge Caravan tried to cross Highway 83 at 607th Avenue in the westbound lanes when it struck a 2013 Toyota Sienna that was southbound on Highway 83.  The Toyota swerved and tried to avoid the Caravan, but was unable to avoid the collision on the snow and ice covered roads.

The driver of the Caravan, Larry Dean Phillips, 70, of Owatonna wasn’t injured, but both his passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Mayo Clinic Mankato.  In the van with Phillips was 17-year-old Melinda Marie Abernathy of Owatonna, and Rebecca Rae Plank, 42, of Kasson.

There were four people in the Toyota: Diana Kay Benson, 53, and her passengers,  Anna Grace Benson, age 14, Erin Diana Benson, 16, and 18-year-old Emily Catherine Benson, all of Mankato.  No one in the Toyota was injured.
