Amboy woman charged with falsely reporting rape

(Amboy, MN) – An Amboy women is facing charges, accused of falsely reporting she was raped.

Thirty-one-year-old Anna Marie Harroun was charged Tuesday in Blue Earth County District Court with misdemeanor falsely reporting a crime.

According to the criminal complaint, Harroun met with police on October 7 to report a sexual assault that she said occurred on August 19.  Investigators interviewed witnesses, and collected DNA samples from the accused and his vehicle.

Court documents say the accused man provided recordings of phone conversations and messages that had started October 25 between himself and Harroun.  In one of the messages, Harroun allegedly says, “I’m dropping the charges, by the way.  I’m going to tell them the truth that I was coerced and made it up.”

In a follow-up interview on October 30, Harroun admitted she and the man had had a consensual sexual relationship, according to the complaint.   She told police a third party coerced her into making a false report and threatened to take her babies away because she is pregnant.

Police spent approximately 15 hours investigating the incident.
