Another Minnesota Supreme Court Justice announces retirement

Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Margaret Chutich has announced she will retire on July 31.
Chutich is the first openly gay justice on the court. She was appointed by a Democratic governor and joined the state’s Supreme Court in 2016.
Last week, Justice Barry Anderson also announced he will retire this year. He is the only Republican-appointed justice on the court. He has served on it since 2004. These retirements will enable Democratic Gov. Tim Walz to appoint four of the seven justices.
Minnesota’s Supreme Court is known to be nonpartisan, especially compared with neighboring Wisconsin’s divided state Supreme Court and an increasingly conservative U.S. Supreme Court.
