An Austin woman who attempted to rob the Freedom gas station on 4th St. NW in Austin on the evening of February 24th, 2022 has been sentenced to jail time, supervised probation, and time in the sentence to service program in Mower County District Court.

40-year-old Carlena Chavon Thomas was convicted and sentenced Friday to 17 days in jail, four years of supervised probation and 40 hours in the sentence to service program for a felony charge of attempted robbery.  Thomas was granted a stay of imposition in the case where the defendant pleads guilty to a felony-level offense.  If he or she successfully completes their probation, the conviction will be deemed a misdemeanor.  Thomas was given credit for 17 days already served, and felony charges for attempted 2nd degree robbery and 5th degree drug possession in the case were dismissed with Thomas’s guilty plea.

Thomas was also convicted and sentenced Friday to a year of unsupervised probation for a gross misdemeanor charge of financial transaction card fraud, use without consent stemming from an incident that took place in Austin on October 5th, 2021.  A 180-day jail sentence was stayed for one year if Thomas complies with the terms of her probation, and Thomas pleaded guilty to both charges on September 12th, 2022.
