Burnin’ up! Excessive heat warning issued for most of southern MN

(Mankato, MN) –  Things are looking hot and steamy, and not in a romantic sort of way.

Think perspiration and damp clothing as most of southern Minnesota suffers through an excessive heat warning Friday.

In Mankato, temperatures are expected to soar into the mid-90’s.  KEYC Chief Meteorologist Mark Tarello says that while dewpoints in the 70’s range are fairly common for this time of year, Friday’s dewpoints could surpass the 80 mark.

The combination of high temps and damp air will make it feel even warmer.  The National Weather Service reports that Mankato will experience a heat index of up to 114 degrees.

The excessive heat warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Friday night.

According to NWS, heat illness is common in such conditions.  The agency recommends that those working outdoors during the heat warning should take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water.
