COVID death in Martin County is one of 56 on record day in Minnesota

A record number of COVID-19 deaths were reported Wednesday by state health officials, as case numbers continue to soar in Minnesota, and the upper midwest.

The latest update from the Minnesota Department of Health shows 56 deaths since the previous report, smashing the record of 36, set on Nov 6. The latest deaths bring Minnesota’s total since the start of the pandemic to 2,754, with 34 of those deaths listed as probable.

A death in Martin County- a 75 to 79-year-old – was among those reported on Wednesday’s death roll. There was also a death in Redwood County, a person in their 90’s. Nearby Rice County reported three deaths of patients in their 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

MDH says 1,016 people have been hospitalized in the seven-day period between Nov 4 and Nov 10, including 178 people admitted to the intensive care unit.

Wednesday’s daily report also included another 4,900 new infections.
