Eagle Lake man charged with 6th DWI

(Mankato, MN) – An Eagle Lake man has been charged with his sixth DWI.

Robert James Schroeder, 53, was charged Monday with two felony counts of DWI and one count of driving after cancellation, a gross misdemeanor.

Court documents say Schroeder was reported to police at 3:17 p.m. on the afternoon of August 12 after someone saw him getting into a pickup with an open container of beer.

Schroeder told police he had been stung by a bee and was on the way to the hospital.  Court documents say he was dry heaving while waiting for medical service to arrive, but first responders didn’t find any reaction or swelling to the sting.

Field sobriety tests were not performed so Schroeder could receive medical attention, according to the complaint.  A blood draw just over an hour later put his blood-alcohol level at .15

Schroeder has five prior DWI convictions, the most recent in Blue Earth County in October 2011.  He was charged with a DUI in 2001 in Scott County, but charges were dismissed in that case.
