(Mankato, MN) – One person is dead and two people injured following an early morning fire at a Mankato apartment building.

The fire broke out in a fourth-floor apartment of the building at 413 North 4th St Thursday at 2:03 a.m., according to a release from Mankato Public Safety.

“Upon arrival, a person was found not breathing,” said the release.  “Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the person was pronounced deceased.”

The name of the deceased will not be released until family has been notified.

Two people also suffered minor injuries while evacuating the building, according to Assistant Director Dan Schisel of public safety.

A sprinkler system extinguished the blaze, and fire equipment wasn’t needed, according to Schisel.

Damages were estimated at $100,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
