(Waseca, MN) – A fire in a downtown Waseca bar early Thursday morning caused minimal damage.

The Waseca Police Department responded to a 911 call at 4:36 a.m. reporting a fire inside the bar on South State Street.

Emergency crews extinguished a small fire before it spread further.  Interior damage was minimal, and there were no damages to any nearby buildings.  No injuries were reported.

The fire came the day after Southern Minnesota News published an article detailing charges against the bar owner, Rachelle Schoknect, who is accused of stealing gambling funds from a local hockey association.

Authorities say the fire is under investigation by the Waseca Police Department and the Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s office.

In an email to SMN, Rachelle Schoknecht indicated that SMN’s report on her charges may have led to vandals trashing the bar and setting fire to the middle of it.
