Wabasso Superintendent McKittrick

(Wabasso, MN) – Many schools across the state had delayed starts because of the weather, but Wabasso Public School announced they would close for an entirely different reason.

In a video message posted to the school’s Facebook page, Superintendent Wade McKittrick said the school would close Thursday, January 24th and Friday, January 25th due to an outbreak of illness.  About 20 percent (74 students) of the school’s student population was down with the flu, and more sick students were roaming the halls Wednesday, according to McKittrick.  Nine staff members were also absent due to illness.  McKittrick said there have been several confirmed cases of influenza A.

After school practices and activities have also been canceled and will resume on Monday.

McKittrick said Thursday’s school day will be made up at the end of the year, while Friday’s make up day would come in March.
