Former Waseca County Sheriff dies at 100
(Waseca, MN) – A former Waseca County Sherrif has passed away.
Merton Schwarz, 100, died Tuesday at the Lake Shore Inn in Waseca. Schwartz served as sheriff from 1976 to 1983, when he retired.
Schwarz was born in 1918 in Blue Earth County. He enlisted in the US Army in 1941, where he served in the Pacific Theater. He began his career in law enforcement in 1957 with the Waseca Police Department.
The Waseca County Sheriff’s office escorted Schwarz’s body from his home to the Dennis Funeral Home Tuesday morning, according to a Facebook post by the department.
Funeral services for Schwarz are scheduled for Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m. A full obituary is at the Dennis Funeral Home website.
