(St. Paul, MN) – A bill introduced in the state legislature yesterday would fund a four-lane expansion for one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the state.

Representative Jeff Brand (D-St. Peter) and Senator Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) authored a bill that would allocate $85 million in state trunk highway funds to expand Highway 14 between New Ulm and Nicollet from two lanes to four.

The 12-mile stretch is the final segment that remains unfunded and unscheduled in a decades-long project to expand the highway to four lanes from New Ulm to Rochester.

Last year, the Highway 14 Partnership made significant progress when the state legislature approved $400 million in state bonds for Corridors of Commerce, with $160 million earmarked to complete the segment of Highway 14 between Owatonna and Dodge Center.
