(St. Paul, MN) – The Minnesota Department of Revenue says that over 200 sites will offer free income and property tax refund returns for those who qualify.

The Internal Revenue Service certifies volunteers for two programs that help Minnesotans prepare their federal and state returns.

People qualify for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program if they meet any of the following criteria:

  • Age 60 or older
  • Person with a disability
  • Speak limited or no English
  • Annual income is less than $55,000

A second program, the AARP Tax-Aide program offers free tax preparation for all Minnesotans, particularly those age 50 or older.  Unlike VITA sites, AARP Tax-Aide sites do not have income restrictions.

Free electronic filing is also available for Minnesotans with an adjusted gross income of $66,000 or less.  You can search for a site near you on the department’s website.
