(Albert Lea, MN) –  The Freeborn County Sheriff is cautioning drivers of downed power lines across the county.

The powerful winter storm moving through the region is wreaking havoc on a number of areas around southern Minnesota, with wet heavy snow and strong winds causing of a number of road closures, damages, and power outages.

“We have over 200 utility poles down in the area which obviously creates safety issues,” ran Sheriff Freitag’s Facebook post.  “Watch out for power lines across the road and low hanging lines over the road.”

Several roads in the county are temporarily shut down for safety concerns.   The sheriff advised finding alternate routes if residents do need to drive.
