(Mankato, MN) – A Go Fund Me page has been started with a goal to wipe out school lunch debt in District 77.

Aaron DeVlaeminick was inspired to start the fundraising page after hearing a public radio interview on the topic.  He did a bit of his own research and found that the Mankato school district is shouldering $110,000 in school lunch debt.

DeVlaeminick clarifies that the local school district doesn’t deny a hot meal to students who carry lunch debt.  But, he says, the debt accumulates year-to-year and impacts the Nutritional Services budget.

“In order to ensure that our district’s policy to feed our kids regardless of circumstance remains in place and our lunchrooms have the funding they need to feed our children in coming years,” reads the donation page, “it is my hope that you will join me in donating to the Districts Nutritional Services program to clear this debt.”
