Husband in custody after woman discovered dead in Searles home

(New Ulm, MN) – A Searles man is in custody after his wife was found dead in their home.

Duane Arden Johnson, 69, called 911 Thursday around 11:44 a.m. to report a dead body in his home. Johnson met with responding deputies, telling them his wife was deceased inside their Sperl Avenue home.

Police discovered the body of Debra Lynn Johnson, 58, inside the residence. The Brown County Sheriff’s office says the death is considered suspicious. Duane Johnson was arrested without incident and jailed in Brown County Jail, where he is being held on charges of criminal neglect.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on the body of Debra Johnson to determine the cause and manner of death.

The New Ulm Police Department, Allina Ambulance Service, Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville County Drug Task Force and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension all assisted at the scene.
