Kilkenny man in stable condition after crash north of Morristown

The Rice County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on a Kilkenny man who was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale Friday night following a single-vehicle crash north of Morristown.

Derek Douglas Balfe, 21, was in stable condition as of Monday afternoon, according to a news release.

At 7:39 p.m. on May 1, deputies were dispatched to the crash, on the 1000 block of 230th St West in Morristown Township.

Investigation showed that Balfe, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, had been eastbound on 230th St West when his pickup left the roadway and struck a field approach.

Balfe’s pickup sustained severe front-end damage, says the release. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The sheriff’s office says alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
