Local Shopko stores survive nationwide closures

(Mankato, MN) – Wisconsin-based Shopko has announced the company plans to close 39 stores around the country, including two in Minnesota.

Store locations in Paynesville and Mahnomen are set to close with liquidation sales starting on Friday, and the anticipated closures finalizing in February.  The announcement leaves southern Minnesotans breathing a great sigh of relief.  Shopko has stores in Mankato, St. Peter, St. James, Fairmont, and Windom, all which will remain open.

The region has seen a number of retail stores close in recent years.  Herberger’s closed its New Ulm and Mankato locations in August.  Last month Lowe’s announced it would close the Mankato store in January.
