(St. Paul, MN) – Mankato will get state grants to clean up two contaminated sites for redevelopment.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) awarded the city $415,752 in cleanup funds for Bridge Plaza, a 1.94-acre site contaminated with petroleum and other contaminants.  The site was historically used as a hotel, junkyard, gas station, and more.  It will be redeveloped with a five-story, mixed-use building offering six apartments and three levels of office space.  The project is expected to create 24 jobs.

Mankato’s .43-acre Studio 5 has been awarded $241,912 in funds for contamination cleanup.  The former site of a dry cleaner and grocery will be redeveloped with a three-story building that offers commercial space, 17 apartments, and 40 off-street parking stalls.  The project is expected to create four jobs.
