Obed Omot Olok mugshot

(Mankato, MN) – A Mankato man is accused of using a beer bottle to assault another man at a downtown bar.

Obed Omot Olok, 27, was charged in Blue Earth County Court Wednesday with two felony counts of 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and felony 3rd-degree assault.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a disturbance call at Red Rocks Bar just after 1 a.m. on January 20, where they found a man with a bloody, lacerated face.  The victim told police that shortly after he and his friends arrived at Red Rocks,  Olok and another man approached him and demanded money and drinks.  When the two men become aggressive, the victim’s friend intervened.

Court documents say that Olok’s companion attempted to strike the victim’s friend with a beer bottle, but when the intended target ducked, the bottle hit the victim in the head.  Olok then hit the victim a second time in the hit with another beer bottle, according to the complaint.

Police reviewed surveillance video and saw Olok’s friend swinging what appeared to be a beer bottle.  Investigators saw the two alleged aggressors get into a silver Ford Taurus on surveillance.  The vehicle was located in the evening on January 20, and Olok was taken into custody.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a medical facility for treatment.
