Mankato man charged with raping neighbor while she slept

(Mankato, MN) – A Mankato man is facing felony criminal charges, accused of raping his neighbor while she slept.

Twenty-two-year-old Michael Jimmy Hunter II was charged in Blue Earth County Court with two felony counts of criminal sexual conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim and her boyfriend were out drinking on the night of March 2nd and returned home around 3:00 a.m.  She told police she was sleeping in bed with her boyfriend when she woke up to someone having sexual intercourse with her.  The woman explained she’d thought it was her boyfriend until she reached back and felt the hair and realized it was Hunter, who had also been downtown the previous night.

The criminal complaint says Hunter likely gained access to her residence through the front door, which had been left unlocked.  A sexual assault kit was completed at a local hospital, according to the complaint.

Hunter was transported to Mankato Public Safety later in the morning, where he declined to speak to officers.  He is also charged with a gross misdemeanor charge of criminal sexual conduct.
