Mankato’s Red Hot Boom 4th of July celebration cancelled

(Mankato, MN) – Mankato’s annual Fourth of July celebration for 2020 has been cancelled due to the coronavirus, but a fireworks show is possible later this year.

City officials say there’s no way to hold the annual Red Hot Boom fireworks under guidelines issued by the CDC.  The city also faces budget shortfalls due to the pandemic, making it difficult to justify the cost of a free-to-the-public celebration.

There is a possibility a fireworks event could happen later in the year, around Labor Day.
