Misdemeanor charges for New Ulm driver that fatally struck pedestrian
(New Ulm, MN) – A New Ulm man who fatally struck a pedestrian faces misdemeanor charges.
Blake Ryan Jarve, 21, faces one count of failing to yield to a pedestrian in Brown County Court, a misdemeanor.
New Ulm police said Jarve struck and killed 70-year-old Roger Saxton of New Ulm on a September morning at the Broadway and 12th South Stree intersection. The criminal complaint says Jarve didn’t see Saxton.
Saxton was the first of two pedestrians killed in three separate pedestrian accidents in New Ulm last fall.
Weeks after Saxton died, 63-year-old Craig Schmidt of New Ulm was killed while crossing Broadway on the north end of town. Tammy Waibel, the driver of the vehicle that struck Schmidt, was later charged with a misdemeanor.
A third pedestrian crash, though not fatal, critically injured a 65-year-old New Ulm woman just days after Schmidt was killed.
