MnDOT seeks federal funding for Highway 14 expansion from Nicollet to New Ulm
(Mankato, MN) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has submitted the expansion of a portion of Highway 14 to the U.S. Department of Transportation as a candidate for a federal grant.
The stretch of highway between Nicollet and New Ulm is the final piece of roadway in a long-sought endeavor to expand Highway 14 to four lanes from Dodge Center to New Ulm. The project is estimated at $85 million dollars. A $25 million federal grant from the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program would help push the currently unfunded project forward.
MnDOT says the agency, along with local partners, is committed to funding the difference to construct the project if it selected as a grant recipient.
Residents from Courtland and surrounding rural area that would be affected by the highway expansion are encouraged to write letters of support for the Highway 14 expansion. More information is available at the MnDOT Highway 14 expansion website page.
BUILD grant recipients will be awarded by November 12th.
