(Mankato, MN) – Police say a Mankato motorcyclist is in jail following a short pursuit that could have merely been a misdemeanor.

Raymond Ervin Koberg, Jr, 21, is being held on possible charges of fleeing police, reckless driving, and speed.

According to a release from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s office, a deputy clocked Koberg at 99 mph on County Road 90 west of Highway 22 Tuesday at 4:25 p.m.  The deputy attempted a traffic stop, according to the release, but Koberg fled towards St. Clair on side roads.

Koberg was later discovered near the St. Clair school by local firefighters after he abandoned his motorcycle, according to the release.  He was arrested and booked in the Blue Earth County Jail.

Police say the 2007 Suzuki GSX R600 Koberg was riding is now pending forfeiture, and his original speeding offense would have likely resulted in a misdemeanor traffic violation.
