Name released of man who died in Faribault police custody

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released the name of a man who died in the custody of the Faribault Police Department.

Jerrell Bryan Skelton, 36, of Faribault, lost consciousness while in a police squad and died a short time later at Allina Health Faribault Medical Center on Sept 2.

The Midwest Medical Examiner is awaiting toxicology results to determine Skelton’s cause of death.  He had no apparent injuries, according to a press release.

The BCA is continuing its investigation into Skelton’s death.  The incident was captured on officer-worn body cameras and dash cameras.

The BCA’s findings will be present without recommendation to the Rice County Attorney’s Office when the investigation is complete.
