(Albert Lea, MN) – A person is dead  following an officer-involved shooting in Albert Lea.

Albert Lea police responded yesterday morning around 10 a.m. to a call that involved a person in an alleyway behind the 300 block of Court Street.  The person was located, and at some point during the encounter, police discharged their weapons and struck the person, according to a press release from the department.

Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

The Minnesota BCA will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.  In their press release, the Albert Lea Police Department says the officers weren’t wearing body cameras, but dash cameras may have captured the incident.

The officers involved are on standard administrative leave.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office will perform an autopsy and identify the deceased pending notification of relatives.
