Semi loaded with pigs overturns in Watonwan County
(Mankato, MN) – A semi-truck carrying pigs overturned in Watonwan County this afternoon, injuring the driver.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the 2007 International Semi was southbound on Highway 15 taking the ramp to eastbound Highway 60 at Madelia when it overturned.
The semi driver, 61-year-old David Lee Gosch of Hayfield was transported to Madelia Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries following the 12:10 p.m. crash.
Lt. Gordon Shank with the state patrol said multiple pigs were killed in the crash, but troopers at the scene weren’t certain of the number of fatalities.
Assisting at the scene with a livestock recovery trailer were the Madelia Fire and Ambulance and Fairmont Fire.
The accident is reminiscent of an incident that happened just under a year ago at the Highway 14 and Highway 169 interchange in Mankato, when a hog semi overturned on an exit ramp. The escaped pigs in that crash been a viral web sensation.
