Steele Co Jail inmate charged with sex crimes in Blue Earth County

A Medford man has been charged with sex crimes in two separate cases in Blue Earth County Court. 

Devon Sather, 21, faces five counts of felony criminal sexual conduct between the two Blue Earth County cases; he is currently incarcerated in Steele County on additional criminal sexual charges.

Sather is accused of raping a teen he met in Mankato while on a walk with the 13-year-old. 

Court documents say Sather threatened to hurt the teen’s family if she told anyone about the assault.

The teen told investigators she and Sather dated for two months after the incident, which she agreed to do because she was scared of Sather.  The pair had sex approximately 45 times during the two-month period, according to the victim.

Witnesses reported that Sather had behaved sexually around the girl and sent her inappropriate texts.

Sather denied having sex with the girl intentionally, but said it was possible the two had sex without his knowledge because the girl was “highly sexualized,” according to Sather.

A second charging document accuses Sather of biting the thighs of a 14-year-old girl repeatedly, leaving bite marks.  A witness who was at the Mankato home during the incident said he saw Sather touching the victim’s thighs “a lot,” according to the complaint.

Sather admitted to biting the girl, but said he was only joking around.

Both incidents allegedly happened summer of 2020.

Sather is currently incarcerated at the Steele County Jail on first-degree criminal sexual charges.
