Two injured in head on collision in Steele County

(Aurora Township) – Two southern Minnesota men were injured when their vehicles collided head on in Steele County Tuesday afternoon at 3:50 p.m.

A Ford Fusion driven by 47-year-old Gary Michael Wencl of Owatonna was northbound on Highway 218 when it crossed the center line and struck a Chevy Express Cargo van head on in the southbound lanes.

The Chevy van was driven by William Charles McAlister, age 22, of Austin, who was driving south on the Highway at the time of the crash.

Wencl was airlifted to St. Mary’s in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries.  McAlister also received non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to St. Mary’s via Mayo 1.
