2 men arrested in drive-by shooting in downtown Janesville

Two men have been arrested in a drive-by shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon in downtown Janesville.

The Waseca County Sheriff’s Office says a victim was airlifted to a hospital with injuries.  The victim remains hospitalized and in stable condition as of Tuesday evening, according to a press release from the Janesville Police Department.

The suspects are in custody in Waseca County on charges of attempted murder and aiding and abetting murder.  Both men are expected to make their initial court appearances later this week.  No other suspects are being sought.

Shortly after 3 p.m., law enforcement responded to multiple 911 calls of shots fired on North Main St near 1st St in Janesville.  Witnesses reported shots were fired from a vehicle that then fled east on Co Rd 14 towards Waseca.

The driver of another vehicle was struck by gunfire, according to the release.  The victim lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the post office building on North Main St.

Witnesses provided a description of the suspect vehicle and pointed police in the direction it had fled.  The vehicle was located by Waseca Police and Waseca County deputies on Co Rd 14 between Janesville and Waseca.  Two occupants were taken into custody without incident.  A handgun was also recovered.

Investigators are working to learn the relationship between the shooter and the victim.  Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Janesville Police Department is investigating the incident, assisted by the Waseca County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
