Waseca High School football coach recovering after collapse

Waseca High School football coach Brad Wendland is recovering in a Mankato hospital after collapsing during the team’s home opener Friday night.

Athletic trainers from both teams and a nurse who was in the stands attended to Wendland.  The group performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

The Waseca Bluejay Activities page tweeted Saturday night: “My phone shows a phone call to 911 at 9:19 p.m. last evening. We are about 24 hours away from an event that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives. We are forever grateful to the first responders who rushed to the scene and were on-site minutes after the call

Wendland told a Twin Cities station he expects to be out of the hospital as early as Wednesday.
