A woman was hospitalized following a fire in New Ulm on Sunday evening.

The New Ulm Fire Department responded at 5:42 p.m. to a house fire at 1111 South Franklin St, where heavy smoke and flames were coming from the rear of the house.  A neighbor had helped the lone occupant out of the house, a woman who was later transported to a hospital.

The fire apparently originated in the kitchen.  Crews had the fire under control in about 30 minutes but remained on the scene for about 90 minutes.

The house sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
