Mankato schools pass mask mandate for elementary & middle schools

The Mankato Area Public School Board passed a mask requirement for students and staff in elementary and middle schools Monday night, despite a strong showing from those opposed to a mandate.
The board voted 5-2 in favor of masks in buildings where children younger than age 12 are present.
The resolution can be lifted when vaccines become available to youth and COVID-19 transmission levels decrease to low levels.
