(Mankato, MN) – The annual “Keep the wreath bright, prevent a red light” campaign ended fire-free for the first time in three years.

Deputy Director of public safety Jeff Bengtson says the campaign, started Thanksgiving.  The wreath is lit with clear bulbs and displayed on Riverfront Drive at public safety through New Year’s Day.  If a preventable fire occurs during that time, a clear bulb is replaced with a red bulb.  A preventable fire is often cooking related or could be a result of neglected chimney maintenance or smoking.

The last time Mankato keep the wreath lit with exclusively clear bulbs was in 2015.
