(Rochester, MN) – Two people were killed in two separate crashes on southern Minnesota roads over the weekend .

A 78-year-old woman died in Mower County Friday when the Toyota Rav 4 she was driving west on County Road 3 collided with a semi that was southbound on Highway 56.  The Minnesota State Patrol says roads were snow and ice covered at 12:41 p.m., the time of the crash that killed Sharon Rose Swallow of Rose Creek.

Swallow was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital Rochester, where she was pronounced deceased.  The driver of the 2014 Peterbilt Chassis tractor that collided with the Rav 4, 28-year-old Aaron Lars Rame of Bricelyn, wasn’t injured.

In Lyon County, an 18-year-old was killed in an  crash Sunday that the state patrol says involved alcohol.  Jordan Peter Clapsaddle died when the Chevy Silverado he was driving south on Highway 23 collided with a northbound Ford F-250 pickup.  The driver of the pickup, Justice James Jensvold, 25, of Granite Falls, and his passenger, 21-year-old Rachel Lane Evangelisto, of Rapid City, SD, weren’t injured in the crash, which happened just after 7 p.m.

The state patrol says Clapsaddle is suspected of using alcohol and wasn’t wearing his seat belt.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
