Most shoplifted: Scheel’s takes top spot for 2nd year in a row

Scheel’s is the most shoplifted store in Mankato in 2021, marking its second consecutive year in the top spot.

Police responded to shoplifting reports at Scheel’s 111 times in 2021, according to data from the Mankato Department of Public Safety.

The sporting goods store soundly whipped Walmart, which had its lowest number of incidents – 40- since at least 2018.  In 2020, the River Hills Mall Scheel’s reported 90 shoplifting incidents, while Walmart reported 73, according to public safety records.

Scheel’s took the “Most Shoplifted” top slot in 2020 after Walmart ranked #1 for three years in a row. The retail giant now has its first solid contender in the category.

Data shows that shoplifting incidents were down overall in 2021 compared to 2020, from 312 to 276.

Rounding out the top five most shoplifted Mankato stores in 2021 is Menards with 24 shoplifting reports, Mills Fleet Farm with 15 incidents, and the Hilltop Hy-Vee with 11 calls to police.
