Update: Downtown streets remain closed after partial roof collapse at Landmark Building
Portions of two downtown Mankato streets remain closed after a partial roof collapse Tuesday afternoon at a building on E Main St.
The Mankato Department of Public Safety was called to a partial roof collapse at the Landmark Building at 4:16 p.m.
“At that point, our job is to get into the area and provide a safe scene,” said public safety Associate Director Dan Schisel.
Mankato police ensured the building was evacuated. Police and fire worked with Public Works to get the streets blocked off and people out of a cordoned area.
City engineers and inspectors will work with the building owner to determine the next steps.
Second St from Walnut to Mulberry streets and Main St from Riverfront Drive to Broad St remain temporarily closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
A drone picture of the roof is posted on social media:
An initial email from the city sent Tuesday evening says the closure is because of an “unknown safety concern with a building’s structure” in the area.
The public is asked to avoid the area as Mankato Public Safety works with others to determine the issue.
It’s not known at this time when the roads will reopen.
