Semi, bus collide near Bricelyn sending 3 to hospital

A semi and a bus collided at an intersection near Bricelyn Friday afternoon, sending a woman and two children to the hospital.

The crash happened at 3:38 p.m. at the intersection of Faribault Co Rd 2 and 510th Ave.

According to a press release from the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, an International semi pulling a grain trailer was southbound on 510th Ave when it approached the intersection with Co Rd 2, stopped, and then continued through the intersection.

The release says the semi driver, Roger Ziegler, 23, of rural Easton, didn’t see the Prairie Lakes bus, which was eastbound on Co Rd 2.  The bus struck the side of the semi, causing it to jackknife in the intersection.

The bus driver, 79-year-old Darlene Buchmeier, of Fairmont, was transported to United District Hospital with injuries described as “bumps, bruises, and scrapes.”

Two juvenile passengers – a girl and a boy – were on the bus. They were taken to a local emergency room by their parents. The release says the boy sustained a strained back and whiplash, while the girl had a sprained ankle, thumb, and a concussion.
