Body found in Boundary Waters identified as Marshall man

A body recovered from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area has been identified as a Marshall man who was reported missing on August 10.

The boy of Justin Sperl, 32, was discovered Monday by canoeists in the Brule Lake Area, in Cook County.

Law enforcement reported having contact with Sperl the day after he was reported missing.  At that time, authorities said that there had been a misunderstanding about Sperl’s return-to-work date and that he was canoeing and was fine.

The Midwest Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
