CHS expansion set for Mankato City Council vote Monday

The Mankato City Council will vote Monday to authorize a conditional use permit for the CHS soybean processing plant.

The permit will clear the way for the construction of a 147-foot soybean oil bleaching and deodorization tower at the plant.  The tower will be connected to the existing refinery with a walkway.

The expansion would allow for an increase in refinement of crude oil from the Fairmont plant, which recently stepped up production by 20%.  It would also modernize the facility, which dates back to the late 50’s.

The permit is expected to pass without issue.
