COVID-19 deaths in Blue Earth, Sibley counties

(St. Paul, MN) – Two people died of COVID-19 in local counties, as Minnesota’s death toll surpasses 1,200.

The Minnesota Department of Health reports that a person in their 80’s has died in Blue Earth County, and a patient in their 90’s died in Sibley County due to COVID-19.

MDH reported 20 new deaths statewide Tuesday, bringing the total to 1,217. People in their 80’s account for 419 of the total deaths, while two deaths have been patients in their 20’s.

Here’s a breakdown of the deaths by age:

A virus breakout has been identified at Cottagewood Senior Community in Mankato, and Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Sibley County.

MDH says that nearly 8,500 of the 28,523 Minnesotans who have tested positive for the virus contracted COVID-19 through known community spread.  There are nearly 4,500 cases in which the manner of transmission couldn’t be traced.
